In the past June 21st was the opening of my solo exhibition in the El Pep Books Gallery, in Lisbon, Portugal.
The gallery is located in the ImavizUnderground shopping, next to the bookstore, where people can buy originals, prints, books, mostly from independent publishers and some zines as well.
El Pep is also a publisher, and a couple of their books got nominated in the Prémios Nacionais de Bd ( National Comics Awards).
The exhibition lasted until July 4th.
Here’s the text i wrote for the press release.
What i like the most about being an illustrator, is to be able to tell stories with drawings.
The drawing is the beginning and the end of all the process, since the search for ideas, until the final drawing, that has been made with brush and ink.
With drawing i can “travel” to other worlds and realities, that can be my world, our world or one that only exist in the head of the writer i’m collaborating with.
Either the work is an illustration, a picture book or a comic book, i try to have always a concept/idea that guides me through the journey. I believe that the work must have an intention, and present an interesting solution to the visual problem that i have to solve.
The exhibition showcased the originals A3 and A4 brush and ink drawings from a variety of projects, like picture books, textbooks, comics, posters and some personal work.
The visitors could also buy some prints of my illustrations.
Here are a couple photos that Pedro Pereira, the owner, took at the opening reception of the exhibition.
